ELLE MAGAZINE'S Kyle Anderson Talks Spring 2011 Trends For nikkistyle.net

As promised, here's Part II of my interview with Elle magazine's Senior Accessories Editor, Kyle Anderson!

Nikki: I read that you loved the Giuseppe Zanotti Mirror High Heel sandals last spring (2010). In regards to footwear, what do you love this spring?

Kyle: I tend to love things that are sexy, sparkly, very high heels and a bit crazy. I love Rock n’ Roll—and I always love leopard for shoes. For spring we are seeing a lot of bright colors, natural materials, and very high heels and wedges. One of my favorite shoes this season is the men-inspired Oxford Lace-Up Platform wedges from Prada in black; and I love the sexy strappy Python Knee-High sandal boots from Pucci.

Nikki: In terms of accessories (handbags, jewelry, shoes, etc.), what are the hottest color trends this season? Are you feeling bright neon colors?

Kyle: Not so much neon. But yes, a lot of bright colors and python. For bags and shoes, I think color and python are great. If you aren't into bright-colored accessories go for something python (in a classic shape, and in a natural python color like tan or brown). For jewelry, our stylists go for statement pieces instead of personal little things. I’d say this season is more about gold; we always love the jewelry at Lanvin.

Nikki: “Mixing Metals”—do or don’t?

Kyle: I think in fashion there are no rules anymore. Yes you can mix metals—you can do whatever you want. I personally don’t mix. But last year we saw a really big trend in mixed metal pieces and that really kind of made me think differently: So many designers (especially Balenciaga) had jewelry collections with gold and silver mixed colors. Now I’m open to it ... maybe for styling, but not for me personally. I wear silver colors. And I don’t wear jewelry except maybe my Rolex or something from Chrome Hearts.

Nikki: What are some timeless accessory pieces that should remain in a woman's and man’s wardrobe, regardless of the current trends?

Kyle: I can probably talk more about women’s accessories than men’s. But if you want to spend some money and invest in something that you can wear for the rest of your life, you will not waste your money buying a black Kelly or Birkin bag. You can wear [it] every day for the rest of your life! Or the classic Chanel quilted bag in black ... you will wear it literally thousands of times—everyone loves them. I always tell people if you look at the pictures of “It girls” from the 50s, 60s, 70s, they wear the same bags as the “It girls” do today. So buy those bags and wear them to death! You will love them.

kyle on shoes - Buy a few classics like a pointy toe Manolo pump in black, tan and/or nude, or a Louboutin pump in the same colors.

kyle on watches - Invest in a beautiful watch like a gold Rolex or Cartier and just wear it every day. You don’t need tons of shoes, watches and bags ... just get the right ones and wear them often. I’d rather invest in a bag or a watch and wear cheaper clothes (in basics) from Zara or something—and enjoy my accessories and let them speak for my style instead of the clothes. I like basic clothes ... and love fab accessories!

YELLOW Is My New Happy Color!

bluefly.com, $19.99
Style Notes! This may sound a bit cheesy, but the other day I wore a basic yellow V Neck T Shirt {similar to the one on the right} and realized how much I love the color yellow and how happy I felt wearing it!

Yellow had always been one of those intimidating colors that I often shied away from. I feared that the color would draw awkward attention my way, or simply too much attention.

I was dead wrong about the awkward attention, because wearing [that yellow tee] underneath my black blazer the other day electrified my overall look. And my colleagues loved it; they said that yellow compliments my complexion! Aw sweet, right? Honestly, I felt cheerful wearing my new favorite color for spring. I had to remind myself that trying something new is a definite MUST.

simple style - fun and fashionable yellow tops...that's affordable!
forever21.com, $10.80
urbanoutfitters.com, $39.00
yoox.com, $45.00
roxy.com, $26.50
outnet.com, $51.25

NEW Spring Nail Polish Colors!

Style Notes! Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri™ Fast Dry Nail Color polishes are fab! This product is not clumpy or thick — and really does dry fast in comparison to other brands (remaining nameless) that I've purchased in the past.

Admittedly, my signature nail polish colors are usually dark, like Black Diamond-dark. However, in the spring I like to brighten things up a bit. Case in point: Last spring I was all about pastel colors, specifically Lively Lilac, I adore the soft girl-y shade. But this spring, I am turning things up a notch with extra bright colors!

Below are two polishes spiked with a playful punch that I bought this week:

#09 - Rapid Red

#440 Mint Sprint

I want to hear from you! Share your signature nail colors for spring via Twitter, or by emailing nikkistyle@nikkistyle.net; your comments may be featured!

S/S 2011 RTW - TRACY REESE (My Top 6!)

Style Notes | (NY, Sept. 2010) Detroit native Tracy Reese never fails to bring us a chic collection that screams femininity—designing a range of pieces fit for women of all body types. This collection is celebratory of women, encouraging them to feel confident in their own skin while rockin' a clean-cut modern style.

Sometimes when clothing, especially tops, are too loosely fit it makes a woman appear box-y, which is so not flattering. But not my top picks! Each loose-fitting piece was thoughtfully designed and styled (creating shape!) which was obviously a priority for Reese. The garments look like they effortlessly slide on the body like butter.

S/S 2011 RTW - ANNA SUI (My Top 5 ... No 6!)

Style Notes | There are so many pieces from Anna Sui’s S/S 2011 RTW collection that are totally wearable—pieces that I would actually wear to work or wherever. So my style! I just love the vintage, hippie-inspired feel that I get when I stalk Anna's oh-so trendy collections from season to season.

Seriously, all the pieces from the collection (debuted in NYC, Sept 2010) had something extra special that made me literally bug out. I had to calm my nerves! I think I stalked each piece about four times before grabbing a hold of myself.

That being said, it was tough to narrow down my picks to only five. So yea I cheated ... I have a total of six top looks ... couldn't help myself. SUE me? [Ha] You'll notice that all of my picks are dresses. I love dresses, especially paired with funky boots!

S/S 2011 RTW - L.A.M.B. (My Top 5!)

Style Notes | Gwen Stefani’s punk rock style is admired by me and many others since her No Doubt days. And naturally her personal style would evolve over the years, however, she maintained the ‘Gwen’ image throughout. Gwen's persona has been consistent from jump without major changesonly minor refinements.

But somewhere in the midst of Gwen’s musical and personal transitions, also known as her moving right along with life’s motions, she brought us a fun-filled fashion line called, L.A.M.B. And so now ... we all get a little piece of the Gwen Style

Below, in no special order are my Top 5 looks from the L.A.M.B. S/S 2011 RTW collection, debuted during New York Fashion Week in September 2010.

Also, below you'll find a video clip of the 'Island Vibes' runway show.

RELOADED! New York Fashion Week: Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear

I weep when I say that New York Fashion Week ended last Thursday. Between actually being in New York City, reading up-to-the-minute Twitter and Facebook updates, and viewing LIVE feeds produced by various sources—the Fashion Week hype in the Big Apple was seriously elevated, which is quite normal for this kind of event. But at times, I couldn't keep up! Information was thrown at me in every direction possible. Can you say … information overload?

However, now, I have a chance to kick backrelaxand browse through (with ease) every single designer piece, look by look, from the Spring 2011 RTW collections.

And pleasssse don't bark! Trust me. I know that most of you darling are already on to London Fashion Week—I’ll get there soon. Still, feel free to reflect with me on breathtaking ready-to-wear garments that NY Fashion Week recently blessed us with.

Objective: Over the next week or so I will share my ‘Top 5' pieces from a variety of S/S 2011 collections. So check back tomorrow to see who/what's on my radar!
