2013 Golden Globes Fashion: nikkistyle's Best-Dressed List

L) Kerry Washington in Miu Miu

R) Megan Fox in Dolce & Gabbana

L) Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta

R) Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

L) Katherine McPhee in Theyskens' Theory

R) Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen

...there you have it, my 'Best-Dressed' list from last night's Golden Globe Awards (Red Carpet)!

Unlike last year, there were literally several gorgeous gowns on The Carpet [this year].

Color Trends consisted of elegant nudes, eye-popping reds/coral, and figure-flattering basic blacks. However, I did secretly admire one gown that was ... let's say "different" from the bunch. (Drum Roll, Please?) I actually liked Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera. You read right. I liked Lucy's gown. The Elementary actress wore them florals like it was nobody's business, and I think she'd kick your ass if you gave her any lip about it.

Anyways, the statement prints coupled with Lucy's confidence really won me over. Honestly, I not only appreciate-but prefer unconventional.

Winter Inspiration (Personal Faves!)

[Black on Black]
Black Leather Skirt + Black Tights

Velour Tanks

Edged-Out Booties

Leather Jackets
Festive Feathers

Style Notes! Some of my favorite items for winter includes the following:

1) Leather - leather skirts, leather shorts, leather gloves. 2) Slinky Tanks; currently I am obsessing over velour because it's a thicker fabric, and excellent for layering during the chilly winter season. 3) Booties! Gosh, I love a pair of sexy booties with lots of heel-height, and certainly favoring bold colors. 4) Tailored Leather Jackets; the look is stylish and makes an impressive fashion statement. 5) "Festive" Feathery (Flirty Mini) Skirts.

My picks are on-trend as well as transitional. Meaning, I can transition many (if not all) of these pieces from winter to spring, such as the velour tank, booties, and leather jacket.

What are YOUR faves for winter?

"Bohemian Punk"

Photo Credit: Courtesy of Alexander McQueen via Elle
Style Notes | Over the years, I would jot down fashion words and phrases that might describe my signature style. And recently, while browsing Elle's Web site, I saw the term "Bohemian Punk" and thought: Ah yes ... that's it! The look demonstrates the compilation of trendy, chic, comfortable pieces—and yes—"geometric patterns, shells, skulls, and chains," according to Elle. Very nikkistyle!

I try never to play-it-safe in regards to my overall style. My clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags, and even hair accessories, gotta have a hint of the "Wow!" factor.

What's YOUR signature style? Tweet me at @nikkistyle, or leave a comment.

Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen

Style Notes | I enjoyed the wedding dressand thought it was very "Kate Middleton." Her overall appearance was simple yet evoked the look of a true traditional princess. The princess' arms were covered up, the veil was long and sheer, and the train swept the floor, measuring just about six feet, according to reports. And rumor has it that she did her own makeup. Now, do I believe that?
Sarah Burton (creative director of Alexander McQueen) on Designing Kate's Dress: "It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it," Burton told Elle UK. "It was such an incredible honour to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created." [Source]
