In the featured photo Katie makes wearing polka dot pants look so effortless ... and probably have some wondering whether or not they themselves can look just as fierce as she. I say, good luck trying! I've already seen some horrid attempts—ahem—January Jones.

Style Notes | During my next shopping haul, I plan to scoop up a few pairs of loose-fitting khaki shorts. I believe that a loose fit is important when trying to pull off a chic “shorts” look—too tight equals so not fashionable.

The featured safari-inspired Newgale Belted Twill shorts by Ralph Lauren has a timeless cuff finishing, sold at Macy’s for $59.50. Personally, I would wear these shorts with a simple Old Navy pocket tee. To spruce things up—try a blazer!

Style Notes! I used to make fun of people who bought leggings over $20 bucks. But in actuality, durable, stylish leggings are hard to come by — the ones that have a unique style and that will not lose its rich color after only one wash and dry in the machine.

The Ramone Leggings are $88. Yes I know...a bit pricey for a pair of leggings. Regardless, I'm still sold and am a fan. The leggings are sexy; such a statement piece.

Combo Harem Pant ($99)

Style Find! Finally...a harem pant I can work with; the crotch is not too (throwback) MC Hammer-ish. 

Despite what the fashion critics might say, I think this look is fresh and youthful, and can be incredibly cute with a little creative styling.
