Eva Chen Moves On To Instagram

Eva Chen Is Set To Make A Move! I had planned to tweet Lucky magazine’s vivacious former editor-in-chief, Eva Chen, to inquire about her next career move after Lucky. Eva is not like some fashion insiders, she's actually responsive and appropriately sociable. But it turns out that I don’t have to tweet her, as I received an alert that Eva will be moving on to Instagram as its “Head of Fashion Partnerships." According to reports, Eva will begin her new role at the social media powerhouse at the end of July.

Eva Chen tells Mashable
I’ll be working closely with stylists, designers, up-and-comers with fun activations and finding new ways to tell fashion stories.
If there's anyone that can pinpoint new ways to tell engaging fashion stories -- that would be Eva. Have you seen her Instagram? She's blessed with an authentic charm, for sure.

I look forward to learning more about Eva's new role as the Head of Fashion Partnerships. Eva has mastered the art of social media community management, specifically using Instagram, so the position sounds fitting for our style maven.

Best of luck, Miss. Eva Chen.

My Mini Mention Makes Glamour!

Note-To-Yourself! When you pick up your copy of Glamour magazine's March issue (yes, when), be sure to flip to page 64 and check-out my mini mention!!!

Seriously. I'm obsessing over a) How awesome it truly is to be mentioned via the spring issue of a major fashion magazine—however small the mention. b) To see my name only pages away from 50 Shades' Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. Hello? c) To publicly express my love for America's Sweetheart, Reese. Pretty historic. HeHe...

In any event, this is a friendly reminder that very cool people are certainly watching and reading your twitter timeline. With that said, tweet to impress! Opportunity knocks! ;)

Too Many Magazines. What To Do? FAB Readers, YIKES, Help Me Out.

Brainstorming! I have 7 years worth of magazines, yes seven. That's a whole lot of time to be collecting something; what you see in the [image above] is not even a 1/4.

I started to, unintentionally, build a magazine collection around the same time I started blogging about fashion, style, and beauty. Magazine articles and images gave me inspiration for new blog posts, encouraged me to stay current with what's trending, what's hot, what's not, as well as allowed me to gain a better understanding about the publishing industry as a whole. I enjoyed staying in-the-know regarding staff movement (i.e. new EICs, new editors, new writers, new contributors, etc.), and still do! Furthermore, it's really interesting to learn how readers respond to selected mag content, via social media.

But I'm faced with having to make a decision: What should I do with all these magazines? Sure, I will certainly continue to store the glossies that I know I will refer back to which consist of my fave articles and cover stories. But other than that, what do I do with the rest? I thought about charity, or giving some to a University—ugh I just want to see my beloved magazines be put to good use. So, I'm making it my mission to figure out a plan: And I'll create a mind-map to help me brainstorm ;)

Aside from recycling and creating personal collages and vision boards, what have you done with your old(er) magazines?

Outfit Edit: Kim Kardashian Spotted Looking Too 'Distressed'...?

Style No No! So there's ripped...then there's tore the f*ck up. Let's take a step back. Kim looks fab from the waist up; I adore a great blazer paired with a lightweight casual tank underneath. And while I am not gaga over what's trendy, I do own a few pairs of distressed jeans, but not as 'distressed' as Kim's. Holy Help! Girlfriend, the jeans are way too holey -- and the overall fit? Meh. Below are some tasteful trendy alternatives:

Easter Sunday "Evening Style"

Faded Denim Jacket
Style Finds! Here's to wrapping up a great, joyus morning with the family and friends. Now, it's almost 8 PM, and you're probably wanting to ease into an Easter Sunday-esque evening outfit that's stylish yet family-ready (Know what I mean?)

Style Advice: Try a cute floral dress with a fab hat (tights is you must) — and you might want to throw on a chic denim jacket; it's a bit chilly outside.

Happy Easter! XoXo :) nikki

Styled To Rock.

Denim Tutu! My thoughts have been fixated on denim; last week I blogged about the denim {-on-denim} trend -- even posted a few denim pieces that are suitable for the workplace. In any event, I came across an article: Urban Outfitters May Have Gone Too Far With A Denim Tutu. Um, excuse me? As if! I think the featured denim tutu is wicked cute and immediately pictured it on a little girl, or maybe Madonna...back in the day. It's fun!

"Urban may have finally crossed the line by selling a denim jumper-cum-tutu in its stores."

::CIA Activity:: Regarding the "ripping off indie designers" comment, I did some digging and discovered that the 'denim tutu' is not anything we haven't seen before; it's been done already. Reference: Exhibit A (Hm...but you ain't heard nothin' from me.)

Holy Apron! Look Cute in the Kitchen!

via an older post on nikkistyle!
A Chic Approach To Baking! I am not much of a Betty Crocker kind of a gal. And not because I don't want to be. I work full-time, so by the end of the day I am straight-up beat and ready to go to bed. However, things may change; today I am featuring chic aprons that might encourage me to 'werk it' over the stove more often. And here's the crazy thing, these aprons are so super stylish that I would wear them out in public, like to a cocktail party! Is that weird? Tweet me

Signed, not your average "fashion blogger." :)

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (NYC): Fashion Designer, Marissa Webb

Designer, Marissa Webb
Designer Emerges at NYFW! Like most Fashion Week onlookers, I'm browsing through spring/summer 2014 collections and stumbled upon a designer by the name of Marissa Webb, now in her third season [style.com]. I was mesmerized by all twenty-eight looks; they're sharp with a dynamite mixture of masculine and feminine elements. I had an Aha moment when I read the following, "I'm a tomboy in a tutu," says Webb. This statement aligns perfectly with Webb's overall SS/14 presentation as well as [her own] personal style. Webb's back story certainly grabs my attention. And I do like a story that's authentic and intriguing, and will keep an eye on her next steps as a designer. Thinking: I wonder what Marie Claire's Creative Director, Nina Garcia thinks about Webb's collection -- since she's known to like designs with a masculine touch.

The Hook's Gregory DelliCarpini Jr. Chats with Celebrity Stylist, Ty Hunter

Style Notes! Ty Hunter went from window-dressing to styling THE HOTTEST superstar to hit the stage Beyoncé (Knowles-Carter). Wondering how'd that happen? Ty tells all to The Hook's Gregory DelliCarpini Jr. (above) Follow Ty Hunter on Twitter.
“I was working in a store in Houston and I met Ms. Tiny and we just clicked instantly,” He revealed to Billboard. “I had a day off and called her to see if she needed help. The rest is history. The next week I was at the Grammys.”

Trend Alert: Overalls For Women

Source: Pretty Major
Style Notes! Unless you've been living underneath a giant rock, I'm sure you heard that overalls made a huge comeback this spring. Yup, you read right, overalls -- "bib-and-brace" -- overalls. And while I'm not too sure if I'd rock the trend (more leaning towards a no) I'm really starting to find them exceptionally cutesy, thanks to the featured picture.

Home-Girl wearing the overalls (above) is showing us that she's embracing the trend as she pairs it with a cool white mesh short sleeve shirt. But, I particularly like that the overall is distressed denim, which is certainly a spruce-up ingredient adding some fashionable flavor to mix. Moreover, peep her manicure! It's clean and simple yet stands out whilst complementing the entire outfit. And the camera? It's so statement.

In closing, I Google'd 'overalls' to read the latest articles discussing the trend, as well as to spy on adult celebs brave enough to wear overalls during SS/13. Findings: Necole of necolebitchie.com (left) is working it for the people. Don't y'all think? Personally, [I think] she nailed it. So, would you rock the overalls trend? Tell me on Twitter, or right below in the comment section. xx :) -ns

So, what IS nikkistyle™?

Mind Mapping! As I think back to (January) 2010 when nikkistyle.net was created, I smile with joy and satisfaction. My mission was/is simple: To blog and showcase a variety of fashion, style and beauty (in first-person). I wanted an exclusive platform to jot down [my personal] commentary as well as to inspire youthe readers—to embrace, create and/or re-create your personal style. I wanted to inspire you to take a chance and play with fashion, whether it be in public, or at home in front of a mirror.

Today I reflect on what nikkistyle™ represents in efforts to clearly think about-and articulate next steps (for building...the brand?) eeck! I can't believe I just mentioned the word: brand. That's a bit scary yet exciting at the same time, but [I am] looking forward to what's in store. Perhaps more creative consulting? Perhaps writing a fashion column (for Marie Claire, LOL)? Perhaps blogging for reputable style and beauty Websites? Perhaps developing and editing content for magazines?

Well. I do know one thing. The wheels are starting to turn faster; check out my mind map above :)

Are you starting to think more about branding, too? Share your story with me: nikki@nikkistyle.net
